Behind the Look: Finally Over It

Summer Walker’s ‘Finally Over It’ has been on repeat since it launched. I was inspired by the album’s overall tone & vibe to create a ‘Finally Over It’ makeup look. The theme from marketing to launch to release is reminiscent of Pamela Anderson & Anna Nicole Smith’s air of glam, money, & complicated love. With songs Heart of a Woman, 1-800 Heartbreak, FMT, & Scars, it’s easy to understand why she’s Finally Over It.

To bring the inspiration to fruition, I started a mood board to capture the look's essence. Of course, I included the promotional photos of Summer Walker with soft glam & an updo in a wedding dress. That’s the look featured on the album cover itself & what ultimately determined the overall look I wanted to create. In the mood board, I included other eye makeup that could fit the wedding dress & flower’s white theme. After all, I want others to draw inspiration from the album’s dedicated mood board, too.
Next, I knew it was time to sketch the look I was waiting to create. From the mood board, I knew neutral tones were best to represent the overall vibe I was going for. The lips feature a simple brown lip combo, & the eyes have a gradient soft brown display. Subtle blush, winged liner, & lashes are what tie the whole look together. The sketch definitely set the tone & vision for the look.

Finally, I could create the inspired look & re-listen to the album. For the eyes, I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette to create a soft & smoky brown eye paired with a winged liner using Maybelline Hyper Easy Liquid Liner. The lashes in the style ‘Matte Lace’ by Kiss to accentuate the eye look. I used the ‘Rosewood’ Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Liner & Milani Keep It Full Lip Plumper to give a gradient brown lip combo. A total list of each product used can be found on Benable!
Overall, I valued the opportunity to plan, sketch, & create a look inspired by an album. I want to create & share additional album or song-inspired makeup looks, so be sure to subscribe to CAGGS’ emails!
